How Difficult is it to Make Your Own Pizza Dough?
Lets face it pizza is a favorite food among many people who live in the western world. It is enjoyable by people of all ages; all races and cultures which can be found just about anywhere you may go. Many like the convenience of picking up the phone, ordering a pizza and then having it delivered right to their home. However, some of you like to make you own pizza and why not it’s fun and it allows you to be creative and design a pizza made just for you. Today I am going to explain how easy it is to make your own pizza dough so that you can begin making your own personal pizza creations.

To make your own pizza dough is simple as it only involves some common ingredients but does take some time for the dough to rise. Now there are a few variables that can alter the way your pizza dough comes out. The water you use along with the humidity level in your kitchen can make a slight difference but if you follow my simple pizza dough recipe you should have fantastic results. Making good pizza dough is a must in order to create a delicious pizza.
Ingredients to make your own pizza dough for a 16” pizza
1 1/2 cups warm water (105°F-115°F)
1 package (2 1/4 teaspoons) of active dry yeast (check the expiration date on the package)
3 1/2 cups bread flour (can use all-purpose but bread flour will give you a crisper crust)
2 Tbsp olive oil
2 teaspoons salt
1 teaspoon sugar
If you have a mixer, feel free to use it or else you will have to do this next step by hand. Add in the flour and begin to stir immediately, keep stirring as the flour will start cluster together into a ball. Continue for about 5 minutes as you should end up with a large dough ball.
Your dough should not be sticky if it is then you added too much water. The dough should be soft not hard and easy to work with. Hard dough means not enough water.
You need to form the dough into a ball and place on then middle of a cookie sheet. Make sure you spread a fine layer of oil onto the cookie sheet before you position the dough.
Now I simply let the dough sit on the cookie sheet for about 5 minutes in my kitchen. Then I press the dough ball by hand to create a large one inch thick dough patty. I do this to help set the dough to a circular shape. Then brush some oil on the top and the side of dough patty. Cover the dough patty with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least two hours
If you want you dough to be ready right away then you needs to substitute warm water with hot water. If you don’t plan on using the dough for a few days then use cold water. But by using warm water your dough is more likely to come out just right.

As you can see making pizza dough is a simple process but you may need a few attempts to get your dough just right. Humidity and water do make a difference so you might need to adjust this recipe some depending upon your location.
The difficult part comes when forming the dough patty into pizza. This is processes that take much practice to get that perfect round shape along with a consistent dough thickness. That is the reason why I press by finished dough ball into patty before I place the dough into the refrigerator and that my friends is how to make you own pizza dough.
