Discover Chicago Style Pizza
Pizza is one of the most popular types of food in America as just about everyone enjoys eating a pizza. Pizza can be prepared in many different styles and made with a variety of toppings. The most popular styles of pizza is the New York style pizza but also popular with many pizza lovers is the Chicago style pizza and chances are you can find this type of pizza not only in Chicago but throughout North America.
What is a Chicago Style Pizza?
The Chicago style pizza was first invented in 1943 by the famous Pizzeria Uno in the great city of Chicago. The goal was to create a pizza different from the popular New York Style pizza which would also reflect the many great Italian dishes commonly found within many Chicago restaurants. This pizza is not a thin crust pizza but rather is created with a thick layer of pizza dough that is placed into a deep round pizza pan then pre-baked before any sauce or toppings are to be added. After the pre-baking process is complete then large amounts of sliced mozzarella cheese is layered on the crust followed by pizza toppings then topped off with lawyer of chunky pizza sauce. From here the pizza is baked in the oven a second time creating a full and heavy pizza that needs to be eaten with a fork and knife.
This is opposite of most pizza styles as a Chicago style pizza has the sauce on top of the toppings which then are on top of the cheese. Chicago style pizza sauce is thick and chunky usually made from shredded tomatoes. The cheese typically in not shredded but instead whole cheese slices which are layered directly on top of the crust. Because of its thickness a Chicago style pizza takes much longer to cook, sometimes up to 45 minutes but this pizza type is very filling similar to eating lasagna or baked ziti.
Where to Find Chicago Style Pizza
Although not as popular New York style pizza, nowadays Chicago style pizza has become very popular and can be found throughout North America. The downside to this pizza style is that it takes so much longer to prepare compared to New York or St Louis style Pizza and cost considerable more but two slices of Chicago style pizza leaves most people felling pretty full.
